Who likes documentaries?

From time to time I do :) Don't get me wrong, I do prefer unrealistic, breath taking romantic movies or serious dramas that leave you "thinking"...but it is good to know what is happening in the real world, what are the new trends, opinions of artists, certain views on politics etc. First of all...you can learn something new ;)

I wanted to mention a few documentaries here, not in any particular order, not because all of them are amazing or only because they won some awards....For me it was just interesting to watch!

March of the Penguins won an Oscar in 2005 and I thought, what the hell.... Yes, penguins are very cute animals but what's the story with this one? One of the narrators in the movie is Morgan Freeman but actually, that does not make any difference, at least not to my attention. Some time ago I watched one of those BBC movies about nature with amazing pictures, such close shots of animals in their everyday life that it stunned me.

It was the same with this one....this documentary gives you even an intimate look on the march of penguins in Antarctica, their struggles with wild life, forces of nature even their "love life" :)

For the admirers of street art I recommend Exit Through the Gift Shop.

That one is actually funny in certain moments as along watching you are considering that this eccentric french shop keeper is just crazy :) Am not really sure if he knew from the beginning what this documentary will be about...and Banksy who is so famous for his works around the graffiti world also admits in the movie that he is not sure what is the reason of Thierry's success.

I do not know anything about street art so I watched this out of simple curiosity. Some of this work was really good, meaning I would put it on my wall, seriously :) And getting a close view on the way this business works, how important connections are and the creative process was just interesting.

Since we already are in the art world, I have also watched The September Issue which documents working days of Anna Wintour, editor-in-chief of Vogue magazine.

There are legends about the harsh Anna Wintour around internet and in fashion world. She does not show any feelings, dominates in her role and has the last call about everything in Vogue. However, she has been decisive in this magazine since 1988 so she must be doing something right :)

The Devil Wears Prada, main role played by Meryl Streep was supposely based on Anna Wintour...and there is certain something in here :)

Anna has been working with some people for many years now and still you can tell after watching this documentary that even though they like their job, they could have been more appreciated by their boss :)

Pina is a document giving a tribute to German choreographer Pina Bausch and it is directed by Wim Wenders.

If you are into dancing and have an eccentric taste have a look yourself. The world of contemporary dancing is unfamiliar to me but I do appreciate good art and emotions brought by movements of the body.

You will see here many talented people who just live for dancing. You can catch a glimpse of their world and how music is reflected in their moves.

If you are up for something serious and talked about among people who care about the environment we live in.....watch Gasland.

I was surprised and touched after seeing this. Must admit I had no idea how complex the issue of big energy companies buying out the land in US is. And in short, this is done just for money...

In the movie you can observe people who were contacted by those companies or made the deal. You will see for yourself what are the consequences of hydraulic process called fracking that is being used by big companies. On the other hand, you can see regular people that just want a better life and are tempted by the proposals just as anyone would be...

And now this year's nominee...Searching for Sugar Man :)

One of my friends told me to watch this and I must say....thank you!

I do not want to spoil the story for you, what I can say is that it's about a life of a musician that was truly underestimated. The music reminds me of Bob Dylan who I really like so the music in the movie is a value added :) See for yourself and judge!
