I was suppose to write the regular thing I do from time to time, few movies from my list that I either liked or not or want to see...but instead I want to talk only about one particular documentary movie I saw just yesterday.
This one is a must see and not only for women as it is very educative. To be honest, I will watch it again as there are so many important subjects touched upon that it is worth seeing more than once to digest it properly.
Very obvious topic, women are not equal to men in today's world and we all know about it.....but do we REALLY know that?:)
Do we talk about it? Do we mention this subject when spending an evening out with our friends? Are we really aware of the impact and know the facts and numbers?
I'm not a big feminist that wants to do everything on my own and does not need a man beside me:) but what if I was the ambitious type that wants to make a career in politics? or a woman that has the big brains for business and wants to lead a corporation? Would I have the same opportunities?
What's interesting in this movie is the way it is presented, you can listen to famous women talking about how they achieved their success and how does it look like to be surrounded mostly by men. And then you see the pure facts.
"If the media is sending girls the message that their value lies in their bodies, this can only leave them feeling disempowered and distract them from making a difference and becoming leaders."
What you hear will distract you and astonish you in this documentary....unless you are a very well educated person in that matter. But still....putting all this in one, cut into parts when e.g. Condoleezza Rice, Secretary of State when Bush was in charge, speaks about being the only woman in the room or Geena Davis explaining how Hollywood works for women or that since 50s till 90s there were only 13 moves for children made where a female character was the leading role.
"97% of what you know about yourself and about your country and your world comes from the male perspective. It doesn't mean that it's wrong. It just means that in a democracy where you talk about equality and full participation, you've got more than half of the population not participating"
All is explained and discussed basing on many levels and environments. You can hear women of the news talking how media created the image of us and why it was done and why after II World War ended US tv was mostly showing women taking care of the house to influence them into staying at home.

Because I am not the best writer I encourage you to see this for yourself.
It's worth it :)
