What a story...

Few days ago I watched something that shocked me a bit. It's not a new movie and definitely not for every audience. It's one of those you think about afterwards...and it does not leave you with positive feeling.

For those who hate subtitles I got bad news, it's a danish movie :) unless, you ARE Danish or speak fluently then no biggie ;))

This 1998 movie is directed a bit like a documentary and the camera is moving all the time (as I'm no technical movie expert I do not know the proper name of this technique of directing). There is chaos and you feel like you observe some process or wait for "this" thing to happen but you don't know what...

Not to spoil the story for you, I can mention that the family meets for celebration of 60th birthday of the father. And it's one of those huge families with traditions like formal speeches by the dinner table but on the other hand, there is a black sheep in the company and certain ones that do stand out of the proper behavior.

I was very surprised by what I saw and how I felt about it. After seeing this movie I read some review by a Danish guy who obviously praised the movie but admitted to feeling repulsed by how this film show Danish people and...that actually there is truth in it.

Festen won in Cannes Film Festival in 1998 and was nominated to many other noble awards. And it is worth seeing, I definitely recommend :)

When I was brainstorming on other titles that left me with amazement I thought of The skin I live in by Pedro Almodovar.

Pedro is famous for his writing, always original and uncommon stories. He provided many of such however this is one of the latest ones and seems different and also in the end reveals the truth that is sooooo weird!

We got Antonio Banderas here (still sexy as hell) and Elena Anaya known from daring movie like Habitacion en Roma. But the main "character" is the story itself.

I really don't know how Almodovar works, where he finds inspiration for those scripts but I simply watch all his movies as he never disappoints with the outcome.

In 2011 there was the world premiere of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo by David Fincher whose movie I love but this time I had to admit I prefer the swedish version from 2009.

Actually the whole Millennium Trilogy of Stieg Larsson was depicted by danish movie maker Niels Arden Oplev. I remember I could not stop watching when I started, and we are talking about around 9 hours of movie here in few parts ;)

Lisbeth Salander is just one and only and that role was meant to be for Noomi Rapace. In my humble opinion, waaay much better Lisbeth to compare with the one from american movie version. When it comes to Mikael, again it was the right choice.

For those who have no idea what's the story about...think twice before you watch this, many violent scenes, scandalous topics but also puzzles to be resolved.

Last but not least I am Love with the amazing Tilda Swinton.

Italian movie with much of fashion, rich family with traditions and great music.

The story seems simple in fact, we see very rich people who meet for dinners, wear Prada and put the father on the pedestal. The wife, Emma Recchi is the only one that stands out as she was married into this family, provided offsprings and behaved well along all the years.

And it looks like she is a bit bored with her perfect life. Her children grew up and have separate lives, her husband is all the time occupied with work. Since the title is I am Love, it's no wonder Emma suddenly meets someone... :)

The whole movie is in italian language and a bit of russian maybe but what draw my attention is that the character played by Tilda Swinton fit so well into this italiani mondo. Another thing is the music....it brings the whole story to another level, it's simply a masterpiece!

I have seen this movie twice actually and I think I will come back to this in future. Even though the ending of this movie is right....it is somehow wrong at the same time and dramatic, and you start thinking about sacrifice....and how much you can give...
